The Wonderland Collection

The eclectic and classic designs of Dorothy Draper, where stripe and floral prints lived together in harmony and where no floor was complete without a checkerboard design, serve as the inspiration for the Wonderland Collection. In 1923, Dorothy Draper began her career as one of the first women to take the design world by storm, creating an industry unto herself with furniture, fabrics and books all touting the advantages of ‘Draperism.’ “She was the first to say that everything didn’t have to exactly match, that it was okay to pair a striped wall with a floral chintz chair and have it look fantastic. Her outlook on design is very similar to what we aim for with our 1891 by SFERRA brand, where every item coordinates but does not necessarily match,” says Aaron Stewart, Creative Director. “She also espoused the idea that design doesn’t have to be stuffy or expensive. Dorothy Draper felt that decorating should be fun, and we certainly agree.”

The Highlife Collection

The ultra-cool, ultra-hip milieu of 1960s Las Vegas, with its bright lights, glamorous hotels and famous night life inspires The High Life Collection, the third collection from 1891 by SFERRA®. It was a sexy world of decadence, where people dressed up to attend night-club performances featuring some of the best entertainers of the day; where high rollers in the casinos played 'til the sun came up – and then played some more. "There was such a sense of freedom, of living for the moment," says Creative Director Aaron Stewart, "and I was attracted to that 'devil-may-care' sensibility. This is our interpretation of that lifestyle.

The Salon Collection

That elusive, evocative and divisive figure, Marie Antoinette, serves as the inspiration for The Salon Collection, the sophomore line from 1891 by SFERRA. Taking a cue from the lavish lifestyle of Versailles in which she lived, and juxtaposing the sweet simplicity that she fount in her Petit Hameau where she played at farm life, Creative Director Aaron Stewart has produced distinctive beds and bedding accessories that enchant and gratify the senses.

The leading fashion icon in her day, Marie Antoinette's ensembles would often reflect the natural world, whether there were flowers on her gown, fur on her shoes or birds peeking out of her coiffure. Stewart was drawn to the extravagant, large-scale motifs that epitomized the 18th century French couture and sough to bring that sensibility out of the museum and into the bedroom. Following the 1891 by SFERRA mantra of 'traditional with a twist,' they designed classical, quintessential creations and re-colored and re-fitted them to fit modern day living.

The Sweet Soleil Collection

The photographs of the late Slim Aarons inspired the debut collection of 1891 by SFERRA – The Sweet Soleil Collection. Viewing the genteel world through his photo lens during the jet-set days of the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s, Aarons photographed “beautiful people doing beautiful things in beautiful places.” Aaron’s rich social portraiture subtly commented on the times, capturing a particular style of life at a quintessential moment, and established the environmental photograph. The iconic images of high society set in the luxury seaside havens of Palm Beach, the Caribbean and the Riviera inspired SFERRA’s Creative Director, Aaron Stewart, to evoke these same hues of the good life in The Sweet Soleil Collection.
